Best Beaches In Western Australia

You won’t find a better place to enjoy the soft white sand and turquoise waters than WA. Both of us have traveled extensively around the world and seen many beaches. We’re not saying it just because we are from Perth, but the beaches in Western Australia are spectacular.

We’ve put together a list of 20 of Western Australia’s best beaches, from the red sands in the Kimberley to the pristine shores in Esperance. If you are planning a road trip or looking for the perfect getaway from Perth, you will want to include a few of these beautiful WA beaches on your itinerary.

Turquoise Bay – Exmouth

Turquoise Bay’s crystal-clear water and white sands are so stunning that you’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn it is consistently ranked among Australia’s top beaches.

The town is located not far from Exmouth, but about 15 hours north-east of Perth. Snorkeling is the most popular activity, aside from spending the day on the softest sand.

You’ll discover an impressive coral reef only meters from the shore. It is home to colorful fish, turtles, and small reef sharks. Turquoise Bay offers drift snorkeling, which means you can enter the water at one end and allow the current to carry you over the reef.

Turquoise Bay was my favorite stop on the road trip from Perth to Exmouth.

Bill’s Bay Coral Bay

Bill’s Bay, another gem on the coral coast, is a beautiful beach that’s a favorite family destination. The beach is usually crowded with families during the high season, April to September. They are trying to escape the cold winters of the South West. Coral Bay is the perfect place to enjoy some winter sunshine!

Bill’s Bay’s water is calm and sheltered, making it perfect for a relaxing beach day. With your snorkeling gear, you can come face-to-face with turtles and big fish. You can see 200 reef sharks in the shallow water by walking for 20 minutes to the nearby Bay.

Coral Bay offers a variety of activities, but the top two are snorkeling with mantas and whale sharks. A full-day snorkeling tour will take you to the best spots on the Ningaloo Reef.

Coral Bay is a popular snorkeling destination.

Cable Beach – Broome

Cable Beach is a stunning sight with its 22 km of white sand along the turquoise waters in the Indian Ocean.

Broome is a great beach destination all year round. Broome is a good choice for a beach getaway. It’s only a 2.5-hour flight away from Perth, so it’s the best option if you don’t want to drive 22 hours from Perth.

Cable Beach is located in Broome, less than 10 minutes away. Cable Beach is home to a number of popular activities.

Long Beach Walks

Swimming in the Ocean

Beach 4-wheel drive

Enjoying the sunset at a beach bar

Sunset camel rides are the most popular activity in Broome.

Are you looking for the best sunsets in WA? Cable Beach is the best! Book a sunset camel tour to have a truly memorable experience.

Cape Leveque – Kimberley

Cape Leveque, the only WA beach on this list that is not only the most remote one but also the most unique, is the most isolated. It’s located at the tip of the Dampier peninsula, a 3-hour drive north from Broome on a bumpy and unsealed highway. You will, of course, need a four-wheel drive to get there.

Cape Leveque is a great day trip if you are visiting Broome. You will be able to see the stunning landscape of red cliffs that lead down to white sands and turquoise water. It’s without a doubt one of WA’s most beautiful beaches.

No 4WD? No problem! Booking a full-day off-road Tour from Broome to Cape Leveque is easy. Enjoy a few hours in the sun and a dip in the ocean. This tour includes a stop at an Aboriginal community as well as the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. You can choose to take a scenic helicopter or a 4WD to get back to Broome.

Eighty Mile Beach – Port Hedland

Eighty Mile Beach is a white-sand paradise. This 220km stretch of coast runs between Port Hedland, Australia, and Broome. Have you ever wanted to experience the feeling of having a beach all to yourself? You are unlikely to meet another person on your trip to Eighty Mile Beach.

You can see many species of migratory birds that depend on this area for food. Do not miss a stunning ocean sunset. The Indian Ocean sunset is an amazing sight.

Want to go remote beach camping in the middle of nowhere? Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park offers a wide range of powered and non-powered campsites. Stay in a self-contained cottage if you’re not into camping. It’s the perfect stopover on your way from Port Hedland or Broome.

Shell Beach – Shark Bay

Shell Beach is a natural wonder made up of millions of tiny shells. There isn’t a grain of sand in sight! Shell Beach is situated on a narrow peninsula leading into Shark Bay.

Shell Beach has beautiful turquoise water that is perfect for swimming. It’s easy to float and stay buoyant with the high salt levels. It’s no wonder that this unique beach has been named one of the top beaches in Western Australia. This is a must-see when you’re in Shark Bay.

The shells were used to build various buildings in Denham in the early 1990s. The Old Pearler Restaurant is one of the few remaining buildings. It’s worth booking ahead to ensure you get a table at this highly-rated restaurant when visiting Shark Bay.

Mullaloo Beach can be found in the northern suburbs, approximately 20 minutes away from Perth’s city center. This beautiful beach is perfect for a family day out, a stroll on the sand, or a picnic at sunset.

The beach isn’t as crowded as other popular beaches in Perth, but this only adds to the appeal. The water is turquoise, and the sand is white. What else could you ask for?!

The beach is patrolled seven days a week by lifeguards for your peace of mind. You can find shops and cafes nearby to get food or coffee.
