Many travelers prefer Sydney or Melbourne – the larger, glitzier cities in eastern Australia. But I have a slight crush on Perth. Perth is located in the west of Australia, about 2,700 kilometers from Adelaide, its nearest city. For comparison, London is only 1,700 km away from Moscow!
It does exist. Perth has the best summer weather in Australia. Perth is home to friendly locals, vineyards of great quality, a breathable center city, a multicultural population, delicious food, stunning nature, and plenty of pubs and nightclubs.
Perth is incredibly isolated from the rest of Australia. The only way to get there is by plane, or an expensive 65-hour rail ride from Sydney to Perth, or a long but incredible (I’ll add!) The Nullarbor Plain, so named because there are no trees on the 1,000 km stretch of land, is a great road trip for tourists from around the world.
Perth is the cheapest Australian city to fly from Asia. Flights from Bali are particularly cheap. Perth Airport is now the destination of the world’s very first non-stop flight between London and Australia. It is often the first stop or last on many travelers’ Australia trips. Even if you’re heading to east Australia as your final destination, stay a while and take in all that Perth has.
This 5-day itinerary for Perth is perfect if you are visiting Perth as part of a backpacking tour in Australia or if you’re traveling with your family. It will show you what you can do around the city and in Perth itself. Are you prepared to experience the best of Perth within five days?
When is the Best Time to Visit Perth
Perth’s best season is undoubtedly the summer. The city has months with almost no rain. You should visit in the shoulder season of April, October, and September if you are sensitive to heat. You’ll also avoid crowds if you see them outside of the school holidays.
Perth Transport Information
Perth is a very walkable city if you only want to explore one part of the city at a given time. The CAT bus is free and circles the center of Perth and Fremantle.
You can reach the suburbs by train, which leaves Perth Station for suburbs in the east, north, and south. Or, if you want more flexibility, you can hire a car.
King Mini Bus offers small-group Perth tours. You can also book a small group tour of Perth with King Mini Bus.

The Perfect Day Perth Itinerary
It can be not easy to decide what to do in Perth for five days. No worries. Perth has a lot to offer. We have included historical sites, beautiful parks, beaches, and more.
Before we go into our itinerary for Perth, we wanted to remind everyone to buy travel insurance. It is impossible to predict what may happen. You do not wish to pay thousands of dollars worth of medical bills. You can’t travel if you don’t have travel insurance.
Travel Insurance is available for as little as $10 per week. It’s a great deal. You can get a quick, non-binding quote below:
SafetyWing, however, is not the only choice. World Nomads and Heymondo are two other options.
Perth CBD
You can see everything in one day due to the compact size of Perth CBD. Start your day early and visit Elizabeth Quay. The city’s center is where many activities and events take place throughout the year.
Elizabeth Quay in Perth is a popular tourist attraction. The bell tower is a great place to snap some photos, see the fountains, and practice bell-ringing. Take a boat to the other side to view the city beach and take pictures of Perth’s skyline.
Go Cultural offers Aboriginal tours around Elizabeth Quay. They explain how the Nyungar built their society around Swan River. The guides tell stories of dreams, sing traditional songs, teach a little bit of language, and talk about their culture and beliefs. The tours last 1.5 hours.
You can also take a cruise down the Swan River to learn more about Perth’s history. Enjoy a drink and enjoy the view of the city from a different perspective. The majority of cruises depart from Barrack Street Jetty, which is just 400 meters from Elizabeth Quay. Booking in advance is highly recommended.
Annalakshmi Restaurant offers a delicious lunch. The Indian vegetarian buffet has a view of the Swan River and is pay whatever you want. Pay what you can; this model works because people are generous enough to contribute extra money to those who otherwise might not have the means to pay for a decent meal. The restaurant is open for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (and again for dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.). You can go twice a day without being judged; I’ve done it before. ).
