What to bring to the Lancelin Sand Dunes

We recommend that you add these items to your list when planning a visit to the Lancelin Sand Dunes:

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats with you. Sun protection is essential during the daytime when the sun can be very powerful.

Also, bring plenty of water. Dehydration can be a problem in the summer heat. Water bottles will keep you hydrated all day.

How to get to Lancelin, Perth

Lancelin, located about an hour north of Perth, is the ideal destination for a road trip with your camping and caravan gear. You can get there the fastest by taking Mitchell Freeway North until you reach Indian Ocean Drive. From there, you can drive straight to Lancelin.

The Lancelin Sand Dunes

After you arrive in Lancelin, you can immediately head to the dunes. The entry to the dunes at Lancelin is free. There are no opening hours, but you must note that after sunset it is prohibited. There is only one entrance to the dunes. You can find the entrance by traveling along Bootoo Street. You can drive through the dunes to get to the car park, or you can choose to do so. Keep your 2WD on the road to avoid getting stuck. Bring a 4WD if you plan to explore deeper into the dunes. You will not be able to bring an Off-Road caravan to the dunes themselves, but you can park it at a nearby campground.

If you do not have a vehicle, many companies offer specific Lancelin Sand Dunes Tours. These tours can be combined with other local attractions, such as the Pinnacles Desert.

Sandboarding

Sandboarding is a must-do activity at the Lancelin Sand Dunes. You can either bring your sandboard to the dunes or rent one from the kiosk on-site. Pre-booking a sandboard allows you to collect it on the day and slide down the slopes.

Quad Biking

Quad bikes are a great way to experience the dunes of Lancelin. No experience is necessary, as an experienced operator will guide you through the dunes. There are also options for double and single-ride bikes so that the kids can get in on the fun.
